- Abstract
Stories used to study on people and events in the past not in present, may make learning process active and meaningful. Students receive support from literary materials to link between the past and the present, to follow the studies for noticing their progress in time, to see their inner world and to understand the vital role of the past so as to shape the present. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of teaching with story-based classroom activities on learners of fourth grade Social Sciences. This study is made with primary school students of fourth grade depended on Muğla Provincial Directorate for National Education in the fall semester of 2012-2013 Academic year. 53 students have attended to this study. 25 of these students are experimental group and 28 of them are control group. Academic achievement test contained 20 questions with multiple choice of four-option is used. The application process is limited in four weeks. At the end of this study it is noticed that there is a remarkable difference between experimental group taught with story-based learning classroom activities and control group. The studies demonstrate that story-based teaching is effective in developing learners' academic achievement.
