The article reports on the merging of Houghton Mifflin Company and Reed Elsevier in the U.S. The merging was realized through the acquisition of Harcourt Education from Reed Elsevier worth $4 billion. It notes that the merging narrows the streamlined field of services offered by the company. According to Barry O'Callaghan, principal shareholder of Houghton Mifflin, the consolidation is dedicated in providing a more customized, diverse and innovative range of products to meet the needs of educators and students.
