- Title
Ethical challenges and considerations in the treatment of children.
- Authors
Elliott, Virginia S.
- Abstract
This paper outlines areas of ethical concern in psychoanalytic treatment, such as confidentiality, countertransference, and boundaries, when working with children, noting where proceedings could ethically come into question. It is not necessarily focused on rules, or a code that is suitable for analytic work with children, but with the psychoanalytic ethic which is best for a child. The treatment of children presents issues that can become ethical ones unless there is an understanding of how feelings and behaviors aroused in working with the young can affect the clinician.
