Part I: The Preparation of the Convention.
- Abstract
The article presents information on several events that resulted in the 1948 Genocide Convention by the United Nations. Action on genocide in the United Nations started when the delegations of Cuba, India, and Panama requested the Secretary General on November 2, 1946, to include an item on the prevention and punishment of Genocide in the agenda of the United Nation's General Assembly. On December 11, 1946, the General Assembly passed a draft resolution that confirmed Genocide to be a crime under international law. The draft proposed to punish all persons responsible for acts of Genocide, irrespective of their status.
