- Abstract
The previous contributions to this special issue have discussed the growing importance and dynamics of datafication or, more specifically, data infrastructures in education policy and governance primarily as case studies in individual national contexts. This last contribution specifically addresses the challenges and potentials of internationally comparative data infrastructure research. Using examples from Germany, France, the USA, and New Zealand, we show that existing comparative classifications with regards to the reactions of educational systems to ‘new governance’ prove fruitful but are also limited in their applicability for the analysis of data infrastructures. Accordingly, we conclude the paper by arguing for the further, systematic development of extended or alternative approaches that focus more on data infrastructures as a genuine, international comparative research topic.
