- Title
Dead White Men: An Essay on the Changing Dynamics of Race in US Action Cinema.
- Authors
Bakke, Gretchen
- Abstract
The article discusses how movies have come to reflect changing race relations in the U.S. It states that previously, African American actors took secondary roles in films and were expendable. Changing trends have seen the rise of African American male actors taking more dominant roles, usually as heroes and avengers who kill Caucasian men. The latter are often depicted as evil people who must be killed, with the former being the heroes who do so. Various movies are cited which show changing cultural views of white supremacy, in favor of a cultural mix.
