- Abstract
This paper attempts to inquiry the causes of the disaffection of female students for university engineering studies at a representative sample of high schools in Galicia -- Spain, so the potential obstacles to this choice are shown. Qualitative and quantitative methods are used and a questionnaire and interview guide was designed specifically. In addition, two panels discussion of students was organized recording and tracking the full debate. The analysis of the results shows problems in the teaching of science and technology subjects, to the school guidance and the persistence of sexist social stereotypes. All of above is affecting low self-esteem of the female students about their capacities owns in science and technology and prevent them to opt for this university education. Several lines of educational intervention are proposed and the continuity of this research is indicated.
