- Title
Model Building versus Theorizing: The Paucity of Theory in the Journal of Economic Theory.
- Authors
KLEIN, DANIEL B.; ROMERO, PEDRO P.
- Abstract
The article discusses how mathematical economics as represented by articles in "Journal of Economic Theory (JET)," routinely fails tests of scientific theory. It cites an examination of 66 regular articles in the 2004 issues of JET and the application of the three requirements of theory namely "Theory of what, Why should we care, and What merit in your explanation?" It indicates that 12% of the articles in the 2004 issues of JET passed the three requirements of theory although most articles are routinely called "theory" and the journal is prestigious.
