- Abstract
The article explores the evidence of the Marian influence of Thomas Merton as depicted in his book "Thirty Poems." It notes that Merton is a devotee to the Blessed Virgin Mary which was manifested throughout his life, from his pilgrimage to the Marian shrines in Cuba to his dedication of his hermitage to Saint Mary of Carmel in the 1960s. Also, it mentions the earliest of Merton's Marian poems such as "Song of Our Lady of Cobre," "The Messenger," and "The Evening of the Visitation."
