- Abstract
Aging itself involves changes in motoric, mental abilities and psychosocial factors. Research suggest that these factors can be successfully influenced by the physical and mental interventions. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency, purpose, type and correlations of psychophysical activities offered by the Daily Center of Activity (DCA) Puhova and Center of Activity Fužine (CAF) alongside differences between them. Data was collected with questionnaires and interviews, in which we included 37 elderly people who regularly attend activities at Daily centers. The results showed that the main reason for attending activities is for the majority of subjects maintaining or improving health. In their view, physical activity positively affect the preservation of general physical condition, acts as agent against diseases associated with aging, reduces the pain associated with chronic injuries and contribute to improving overall self-sufficiency. For them the cognitive activities present means for strengthening the brain functions which is expressed with good cognitive function. Part of daily cognitive tasks are also carried outside of centers with homework assignments from educational workshops. The elderly population are in both types of activities influenced with greater socialization, which is associated with creating and maintaining friendships. Regular physical activity and educational workshops in daily centers of activities are great investment for a healthy ageing.
