- Abstract
The paper presents the first data on the methane distribution in the water column of Antarctic Sound (Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean) acquired during an integrated expedition of the Russian Academy of Sciences on board the R/V Akademik Mstislav Keldysh (cruise 79). A stable zone with a high concentration of dissolved methane (up to 7.53 nmol/L) has been revealed in the deep part of the channel, below 400 m. According to concurrent measurements, the methane concentration in the bottom layer of Antarctic Sound significantly exceeds the average methane concentration in the Weddell Sea.
