- Abstract
The study "Federal Order and National Integration in the German Confederation 1816-1848" by Marko Kreutzmann examines the political work of the committees and commissions of the German Confederation. The author shows that the German Confederation not only took repressive measures, but also actively worked on various topics such as customs policy, legal unification, and railway construction. The work of the committees was filled through secret elections in the Federal Assembly, and although the committee members were formally independent, there was close coordination with their governments. The study also sheds light on the controversy surrounding the publication of the Bundestag protocols and shows how the institutional construction of the Confederation and political divergences affected its scope for action.
