- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the Concord, New Hampshire stage coach manufacturing company Abbot-Downing & Co. It examines the redecoration of a coach in Concord by Edwin G. Burgum and comments that his father John Burgum decorated the original coaches. The author reflects on coaches still in existence in the 1940s and discusses the use of the Deadwood coach by European royalty and by hunter and showman Buffalo Bill. The company was founded by Lewis Downing and inherited by his son Lewis Downing, Jr.
