- Title
IN THE PATH OF ALLAH: EVOLVING INTERPRETATIONS OF JIHAD AND ITS MODERN CHALLENGES.
- Authors
Dayem, Mohamed Abdel; Ayub, Fatima
- Abstract
The article discusses the argument that the holy war practiced by the terrorist network Al Qaeda does not reflect the Islamic doctrines but that of the pre-Islamic Arabian norms. It dissociates the concept of jihad from the idea of holy war, and examines it in the contexts of its textual, historical and legal evolution. It also provides a comparison between jihad and the Christian Just War Doctrine, as well as between the revivalist and fundamentalist interpretations of the doctrine.
