- Title
Dogs trained to alert owners to onset of hypoglycaemia.
- Abstract
The article reports that the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has said that special assistance dogs are being trained in the U.S. to alert diabetic owners when their blood glucose levels drop to dangerous levels. According to ADA, it takes years of expensive work to train a dog to sense impending episodes of human hypoglycemia. A popular theory explained that dogs are reacting to scents created by chemical changes caused by glucose imbalance.
