- Abstract
The article compares the benefits provided by nutritional intervention with fish oil (FO) and standard of care (SOC) for weight and skeletal muscle mass in newly referred patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer receiving chemotherapy. Computed tomography images were used to measure the skeletal muscle and adipose tissue of 16 patients in the FO group and 24 patients in the SOC group. Results showed an average weight loss of 2.3±0.9 kilograms in patients in the SOC group, while patients in the FO group maintained their weight and muscle mass.
