Wo bleiben Deutschlands alte Autos?

- Abstract
In Germany, approximately 2.5-2.7 million cars are deregistered annually, of which only a small portion is scrapped. Many deregistered vehicles are exported abroad, which affects global climate protection in the private car sector. The article deals with the damages caused by the export of non-roadworthy vehicles from industrialized countries to countries with lower environmental regulations. These damages include increased fine particulate matter pollution, accidents due to lack of traffic safety, and improper disposal of vehicles and vehicle parts. Import restrictions by destination countries could solve the problem, but there is little interest in most importing states. The EU has presented a draft regulation that would only allow the export of vehicles under certain conditions, but it is doubted whether these regulations can actually solve the problem.
