- Abstract
The article presents a facsimile of the 1731 monograph "The Maryland Muse," by Maryland poet-laureate Ebenezer Cooke, containing the narrative poems "The History of Colonel Nathaniel Bacon's Rebellion in Virginia," and "The Sotweed Factor, or Voiage to Maryland." An extensive introduction is provided discussing the historical context of Cooke's writings, analyzing his style and output within the literary corpus of 18th-century American literature, and providing a bibliography of his various editions.
