- Title
THE COSTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE EMPLOYMENT ARENA: A CALL FOR LEGAL REFORM AND COMMUNITY-BASED EDUCATION INITIATIVES.
- Authors
Brown, Jessie Bode
- Abstract
The article discusses the costs of domestic violence in the employment context in the U.S. Domestic violence affects victims in the workplace and they often have tardiness and attendance problems as they have to obtain restraining orders or attend court hearings. Up to half of those victims have lost a job due to difficulties caused by domestic violence. Such issues have not been as widely recognized and yet there is still no legislation that protects women in the workplace while encouraging employers to work cooperatively with them to solve the problem. Legal reform and community-based education initiatives need a big amount of money to protect domestic violence victims in the workplace.
