- Title
The 3,000-mile myth: Old habits die hard, but this one is apparently immortal.
- Authors
Zabawski, Evan
- Abstract
The author reflects on myths associated with the 3000 mile habit of changing oils in automobiles. She cites insight from Harvard economist Henry Rosovsky regarding the most common reasons that prompted owners to change oil at a very low mileage. The author argues that the 3000 miles mantra of changing oil as recommended by original equipment manufacturers (OEM) is not true as it only brings false sense of security since they are not necessarily accurate.
