- Abstract
An essay is presented about nuns in literary works of fiction in the 1950s-1980s. Among the short stories featuring nuns are "Chamois Gloves," by Mary Lavin, "The Road to the Shore," by Michael MacLaverty, and "Minerva's Apprentice," by Mary O'Donnell. Also cited are a report by academic Ivana Bacik on the percentage of Irish Catholics in 1991-2011, the criticism by Frances Finnegan of the nuns who worked in Irish Magdalen laundries, and the comment by Professor Elizabeth Butler Cullingford.
