- Abstract
The article presents an essay on the use of alternated doubling in the 2013 theater production of "Richard II" directed by the author for the company Poor Shadows of Elysium. Topics include practice of alternated doubling in "Richard II," reason for use of alternated doubling in "Richard II," and John Barton's1974 "Richard II." Doubled imagery in "Richard II" onstage and in the text, and uses/implications of alternating doubling within the canon of early modern history plays are discussed.
