- Abstract
Objective: to reflect on the presence of mental health assistance in the health programs and policies towards women's health and mental health. Method: this is a study developed within the discipline called Advanced Topics in Mental Health from the Nursing MA Course of Universidade Federal do Ceara. A literature search on the theme was carried out and, after the reading and summary of the material, the analysis and reflection took place. Results: in Brazil, women's health assistance and the public policies were driven by a reductionist view and the holistic care of women was far from being achieved. However, in the history of feminist movements, of sectors from the civil society, and of the sanitary reformation, the woman is no longer reduced to a merely biological being and several public policies aiming to address the inequalities between men and women and to promote health in an integral manner were created, including mental health. Conclusion: the advancements related to the public policies towards the integral assistance to women's health are evident, however, there is an urgent need for identifying the main gaps in the assistance to women's mental health.
