- Title
THE ODIOUS DEBT DOCTRINE AFTER IRAQ.
- Authors
Damle, Jai
- Abstract
The article discusses about the odious debt doctrine and the application of debt write-off in Iraq after the end of Saddam Hussein's administration. According to the article, a doctrine has been set-up that proposes to cancel odious debts, or debts incurred by despots or dictators from being state debts into debts incurred by those former leaders instead. This is to help the nations that were facing the burden of paying debts loaned by their former despots, used for personal use. In the case of Iraq, through political help, debts incurred by the state of Iraq were written-off.
