- Abstract
This article analyzes factors that determine the economic participation of Latin american, caribbean, native non-hispanic white and african american women in the United States. Information from the American Community Survey (ACS-2008) is used to describe the characteristics of their participation, and a probit model is utilized to establish some of the factors that determine it. The findings of this study demonstrate that there are significant differences in the economic participation of Latin American and Caribbean women in the United States. In general, non-hispanic whites and african americans participate to a greater degree than the immigrants, and the determinants for their participation varied according to the women's place of origin and marital status. Human capital variables, such as schooling, affect the economic participation of natives more than that of immigrants.
