The article reports that the global financial crisis, public debt rose rapidly in many advanced and emerging market economies. Every country faces a fiscal limit at which, for economic or political reasons, taxes and spending can no longer adjust to stabilize debt. Quantifying fiscal limits is challenging due to different countries have different capacities to service their debt and countries with similar debt levels may face different default risks.
