- Title
VEGETATION RIPPLES NEAR GUMMI, NIGERIA.
- Authors
Clayton, W.D.
- Abstract
The article investigates the ripple-like vegetation patterns near Gummi, Nigeria. The patterns, which unlike previous patterns are not clearly related to gross soil differences developed under a desert regime, can be observed to the north of the Zamfara river, between Gummi and Bukwium. It was found out that the ripple-like pattern consisted of almost pure Combretum nigricans. Compared to stripes and arcs known in Somalia and Sudan, the ripple-like patterns in the Savanna woodland of Combretum occur in sandy soils with an approximately 750mm annual rainfall.
