- Title
OBSERVATIONS ON CONCENTRIC 'FAIRY RINGS' IN ARCTIC MOSS MAT.
- Authors
Wilson, J. Warren
- Abstract
The article presents a study that examines the concentric fairy rings in arctic moss mat, especially in Rhacomitrium at Jaya Mayen island in the Greenland Sea. It discusses the occurrence and form of the rings, and evaluates several shoots from a ring system to find out whether the fungus penetrated the moss. It shows that majority of the fairy rings are not parasitism and unusual. It also states that half of the nitrogen in the moss was lost following the passage of the fungus in the rings and in the intervals.
