- Abstract
The article discusses the expansion of blood spot screening in new born babies using the tandem mass spectrometry (TMS) and asserts it is a reliable technique that offer screening of disorders on a large scale. The author cites several disadvantages of the screening expansion such as the increase in false positive cases, overdiagnosis and overtreatment. Carrier status is noted to have a negative impact on the child's psychology that often result to low self-esteem and stigmatization.
