- Abstract
The article analyzes the resistance of the Yaqui indigenous tribe of Sonora, Mexico in response to the implementation of the Independence Aqueduct. It describes the aqueduct and the purpose of its implementation in the natural reserve, organizations involved such as the National Water Commission of Mexico and its control over the tribe's indigenous territory, and discusses the Yaqui tribe's desire to be autonomous and independent. The Yaqui's attempts to be autonomous in the past are described and a table is provided to demonstrate the dam system of the Yaqui River.
