- Title
Are Teeth Meant to Last a Lifetime?
- Authors
Sones, Amerian D.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the expected lifespan of natural dentition and dental implants. He comments on the large number of dental extractions among younger patients at the emergency extraction clinic at a prosthodontics faculty he worked at and discusses how hip and knee joint replacements have increased as lifespans increase. He talks about a study which found a decline in edentulism among the U.S. population and considers the role of personalized and preventive medicine to lessen tooth loss.
