- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between antislavery movements and the publishing industry in the U.S. during the 1830s. It describes the publication of books, tracts, and periodicals that raised support for anti-slavery movements across the U.S., the political message of the anti-slavery publications, and the statistics compiled by anti-slavery publications and their use in historical accounting of the time period. Other subjects under discussion include the publications of the American Anti-Slavery Society (AASS), the pamphlet "The Third Annual Report of the American Anti-Slavery Society," and the circulation of anti-slavery publications.
