- Abstract
The article critiques the poem "Astrophil and Stella" by Philip Sidney. Particular focus is given to the poem's use of the technique known as anatomical blazoning, or the praise of the body in parts. According to the author, the poem links nobility to heraldry and the control of female sexuality. Details on the use of anatomical blazoning in poems by Henry Constable, Barnabe Barnes, and Edmund Spenser are also presented. Other topics include masculinity, rank, and chastity.
