- Abstract
The author discusses the need for a national quality improvement initiative to reduce the costs of liver transplantation in children in the United States. The author cites a University of Michigan study which reported on the financial implications of surgical complications in pediatric liver transplant recipients. The Michigan researchers have re-confirmed that surgical complications are expensive and lead to a financial burden to payers, medical centers and the government.
