- Title
Censorship of the Patient-Physician Relationship: A New Florida Law.
- Authors
Murtagh, Lindsey; Miller, Matthew
- Abstract
The authors discuss the medical, ethical and legal issues presented by the Florida law, Privacy of Firearm Owners, passed in June 2011. The law discourages its state health care practitioners and facilities from making inquiries and recording information regarding firearm ownership by the patient or any of his family members in the home. That a gun in the home leads to higher risks of violent death in the household and brief counseling can influence how patients store guns is pointed out.
