- Title
Dissent at Seventy.
- Authors
Shenk, Timothy
- Abstract
The author celebrates the 70th anniversary of the journal and its survival since its founding in 1954. He agrees that intellectuals 70 years ago start a magazine when they can do nothing else and that the easiest way to make a living for a writer in present day is to find thousands of people who agree with them. He refers to a democratic left as the best chance of building a more just society and stresses the need for defenders of democracy. He also views that only the wealthy and powerful can afford naivety and delusions as luxury goods.
