- Abstract
The article describes the life and work of the Czech artist Frantisek Kupka, whose painting "Disks of Newton Study for Fugue in Two Colors”, appears on the cover of the April 16, 2008 issue of the journal. The painting is an example of Kupka's talent for a particular style of abstract art known as Orphism, which is described as cubism with color. He received his art training in Prague and Vienna before arriving in Paris, France is 1895. His interest in music, mathematics, and science and how this informed his painting is discussed.
