- Title
Researchers Create Artificial DNA Bases.
- Authors
Hampton, Tracy
- Abstract
The article reports on research in which researchers created thousands of artificial nucleotides, searched for candidates that could be copied for the enzymes responsible for DNA replications, and created artificial DNA bases. A discussion of additional research in which researchers are exploring strategies to modify DNA in different ways, including the engineering of DNA molecules that lack negatively charged phosphate groups, is presented. The role the research will play in the development of fully artificial genetic systems that support a synthetic biology is discussed.
