- Abstract
Objective: To account and evaluate the PH of the green, blue and gray components of rice production in the lower São Francisco in the years 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. Theoretical framework: It relies on water resource management, conceptualization of the water footprint and its applications. Method: This is a descriptive quantitative study. The data for accounting were collected in the lower São Francisco of Sergipe, in the city of Neópolis-SE, from the methodology proposed by Arjen Y. Hoekstra (2011) for Water Footprint. Results and conclusion: The results obtained showed that the green PH accounted for 51% (2016), 34% (2017), 60% (2018) and 68% (2019) of all water used in the crop. The highest PHblue among the years was in 2017 (67%). PHcinza showed a growth profile over the years being correlated to the other components. Therefore, the analysis of the components of PH can be used in planning the efficient use of water for rice production in the lower São Francisco region of Sergipe. Implications of the research: Evidence of the amount of water used in rice cultivation in the lower São Francisco region of Sergipe, demonstrating the importance of managing water resources and the use of agrochemicals in local rice production. Originality: Contributes to the discussion of the rice activity in the lower São Francisco, being the first study on Water Footprint for rice in the lower sergipan region.
