- Abstract
Most of the literature on family firms' succession only studied the relationship between predecessor and successor from a one-to-one perspective. However, in practice, it is common that more than one sibling take over the family firm. Based on four cases of family successions in Quebec, this article focuses on the impact of family external stakeholders (FES) in the establishment and operation of a sibling co-succession. We distinguish two categories of FES : permanent and occasional. We further examine their key role in the emergence and success of family firm transfers from controlling owner to sibling co-succession.
