- Abstract
The artist Arcadio Romero Boelle was born in Lugo in 1908. Throughout his life he participated in a number of state cultural activites, one of which was called Xeración da República. Francisco Lamas, a friend and colleage from Yunque, periodico de vanguardia política, reported on a photographic collective exhibition in 1935, in which he praised Romero's only photo there: Crecida del Miño. However, the Civil War put an end to the cultural expectations of the Republic. They did not meet again until 1943, when Romero displayed his pictures: Estampas Gallegas, at the Diputacion Provincial. Ánxel Fole, Luis Pimentel and Glicerio Albarrán Puente reported on the event in El Progreso. In 1946, Romero had further exhibitions in the Casino de Vigo and the Diputación Provincial of Lugo. These exhibitions were reported on by Aquilino Iglesia Alvariño and Julio Sigüenza, Romero's old colleague from Yunque. Romero died following a car crash in 1956. Nevertheless, the memory of his life lived on through his friends, who continued speaking in praise of his work. Celestino Fernández de la Vega says: "Romero's work will become enduring testament of a simple life, dedicated to a passionate vocation".
