- Abstract
Paradoxically, in the century of the Internet and modem social media, communication seems to be the biggest problem of humankind. The gravity of the communication misunderstandings is often underestimated. Nevertheless, it influences not only interpersonal contacts in the private area but also corporate sphere. In the latter case, it seems to be the cause of decreasing efficacy and a deteriorating atmosphere at work. That is the reason why permanent discussion concerning communication misunderstandings and barriers in the corporate area is essential. The following paper discusses the subject referring to both theoretical and practical sides of the issue. In the first part, the theoretical foundation of communication is presented. The author concentrates on depicting communication from different perspectives of disciplines dealing with the subject (linguistic, psychological and social). An overview of topics such as communication skills, features of efficient communication and conditions of intercultural communication in international corporations is provided. The second part of the paper provides an insight into the nature of conflicts in a corporation, with an attempt to identify the most critical areas. In this part of the article, the quantitative and qualitative research results are reported. Intercultural differences, specific language and work positions are only a few aspects that are taken into account in the research.
