- Abstract
The anthology "Freedom according to Kant. Traditions, Reception, Transformation, Relevance" by Saša Josifović and Jörg Noller examines the origin, reception, development, and relevance of Immanuel Kant's philosophy of freedom. The first part of the book deals with the moral philosophy of the pre-critical phase and the connection between freedom and reason. The second part presents an alternative position to the orthodox interpretation of the concept of freedom in critical philosophy. The article examines various aspects of Kantian research and shows how the concept of autonomy of reason has been discussed in different philosophical debates. It argues that transcendental philosophy, through anthropologization, gains access to current debates but at the same time endangers the objectivity and binding nature of morality. The reception of Kant by Reinhold and Schiller is also examined, showing how they transform the concept of autonomy to enable individual self-determination. Another contribution argues that Kant's theory of free action is still relevant and surpasses modern theories of freedom. Overall, the article provides a historically accurate reconstruction of the receptions of Kant and shows that central problems of Kantian research were already discussed in these debates.
