- Authors
Nolan, Barbara
- Abstract
The article investigates into French medieval fabliau-anthologies. It focuses on a 13th-century French manuscript compilation containing 23 or 24 stories. The author calls into question three assumptions about the fabliaux, including best is done in seeking the essence of the fabliaux, bibliothèques idiosyncratiques describe the manuscripts containing the fabliaux, and the exclusion of socio-political, cultural, and ecclesiastical structures in the fabliaux. These assumptions are also shown at one 13th-century fabliau-compilation and a fabliau when studied in relation to each other.
