- Abstract
Simulation-based education (SBE) is widely recognised for its effectiveness in teaching nursing skills, yet its application in stoma care remains limited. Stoma care, a specialised field within nursing, necessitates an understanding of evolving technologies and patient-centred care approaches. This short article examines the current state of stoma care education and explores the potential of simulation-based education to enhance nursing proficiency in this domain. The article highlights the benefits of simulation-based approaches in addressing the complexities of stoma care. From manikin-based simulations to serious game-based web applications, various modalities offer immersive learning experiences for nursing students, fostering practical skills acquisition, and enhancing confidence in stoma care management. Despite the existing evidence supporting the efficacy of simulation-based education in stoma care education, its integration into nursing curricula remains limited. This gap underscores the need for further exploration and implementation of simulation-based approaches to better prepare nursing professionals in delivering high-quality care to stoma patients. By leveraging simulation-based education techniques healthcare education can advance towards more comprehensive and patient-centred training, ultimately improving patient outcomes within the stoma care domain.
