Medical Profiling and Online Medicine: The Ethics of 'Personalised Healthcare' in a Consumer Age.
- Abstract
The article provides an overview of a report on the developments in medical profiling and online medicine that are claimed by some to herald a new era of personalised healthcare. It looks into the claim made for personalised healthcare and examines the idea of personalisation and identify at least four different meanings of the term. It offers information on the two key social pressures in the report extending beyond healthcare which present ethical challenges. It outlines the five ethical values considered important in the report for governing policy and practice for the developments.
