- Abstract
The article presents a case study of a six-month-old Quarter Horse filly which had been found struggling under a pasture fence. It states that a spurious increase in serum total carbon dioxide concentrations have been reported in the animal with severe rhabdomyolysis, and are linked to release of intracellular stores of pyruvate and lactate dehydrogenase from necrotic myocytes. It notes that unusual values obtained by wet chemistry analyzers should be asserted using blood gas analysis.
