The article discusses the impacts of microbial biodiesel in economic, environmental and technical conditions. It highlights the use of genome-scale metabolic models (GEMs) in measuring the production of different biodiesels. It emphasizes the conversion of fatty acids and alcohol to acyl ethyl esters through heterologous expression of wax ester synthases.
