Waltz, Emily
- Abstract
The article reports on the approval of the Plenish biotech soybean oil from Iowa-based seed company Pioneer Hi-Bred by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). It states that the firm plans to commercialize the product which has an altered fatty acid profile by 2012. It mentions that the oil has a longer shelf life when compared to other commodity soybean oil and it is more stable at high frying temperatures. The author reports that food companies in the U.S. will conduct consumer frying tests, taste tests and shelf life tests to examine the product.
