Risking one's Life to Petition the Authorities: The black jail industry in China.
- Abstract
The article looks at the illegal industry in China, which is involved in intercepting petitioners who have grievances toward public authorities. It explores the classification of the Chinese government of the petitions it receives as well as highlights the Wang Gaowei case that deal with practices of an illegal industry associated to the petitioning system. Political projects advocating the reform of the petitioning system are discussed.
